Eyes and neck pain

If you have had the unpleasant experience of a neck injury, and despite your best efforts the pain and symptoms persist, the solution may be to restore the connection between the neck and the eyes.

Neck injuries are usually associated with car accidents, constant head movement, skull injury, bungee jumping, diving and other causes.

The symptoms commonly associated with neck injuries are the following: dizziness, headache, shoulder or back pain, migraine, tinnitus in the ears, disturbances in balance and visual disturbances. The main cause of all the above symptoms is reduced control and coordination between head and eye movement.

Many times, after experiencing a neck injury, driving, reading a text, visual fatigue in front of a computer screen, rapid head movement and walking, among other things, are cited as causes of the symptoms.

Reduced control and coordination of movement between the head and eye is a recognized problem in patients with chronic neck pain, particularly after a cervical spine injury. The smooth movements of the eyes and their differentiation from the movements of the cervical spine give us a clear picture of the muscles responsible for the stability of the neck.

Sensory and motor control of head and eye movement is based on information from the vestibular system, visual stimuli and proprioception (muscle balance) of the neck region. The cervical spine plays an important role in maintaining the muscular and sensory balance between the eyes and the cervical joints by providing reflex connections among the vestibular, visual and central nervous systems.

The cervical muscles transmit and receive information from the central nervous system. They also have specific connections to the vestibular and visual systems as well as the sympathetic nervous system.

Eyes and head movement go together.
